In Memoriam

February 21, 2017: Dom Bernard Johnson, Abbot emeritus of Conyers and Vina.

Dom Bernard was born in 1925 in Las Animas, Colorado, USA. He entered Holy Spirit, Conyers, in 1946. He made his solemn profession in 1951 and was ordained a priest in 1954. He arrived in Vina in 1967. He was elected second abbot of Vina (1968 -1970). He then served the Order as a Permanent Councilor and as Procurator General (1971 – 1990). He was elected fifth abbot of Conyers (1990 – 2000) when he returned his stability to Vina. Dom Bernard was 91 years old and had been in monastic vows for 69 years and 62 years a priest when the Lord called him.

Generous, original and endearing personality, he left many memories in all the communities that he visited!
