OriginsFounded by Tenshien at Yawata-Mura in 1935; erected as abbey 1937. Transferred to Jurenji in 1948 and to Nishinomiya in 1967.
History
- Mgr Castanier, bishop of Osaka, desired to have in his diocese a contemplative monastery ever since his election as bishop in 1917. On many occasions he presented his request, especially as the number of vocations at Our Lady of the Angels steadily increased.
- The 1929 general chapter authorized Our Lady of the Angels to prepare a foundation; the chapter of 1930 permitted the purchase of land; in 1932 Mgr Castanier offered a site in view of the arrival of nuns. The chapter of 1934 and the Holy See authorized the foundation and in the course of 1935 the founders took possession of the new monastery. It was raised to an abbey by the bull of July 6, 1935, but it could not be erected by Mgr Castanier until 8 March 1937.
- 1945 during the war they returned to Angels 5 June – 17 December 1945.
- 1948 December 8, transferred from Yawata-Mura to Jurenji.
- 1954 beginning of the foundation of Our Lady of Nasu; 20 religious were sent.
- 1966, 30 December, a large part of the old monastery burned down. A religious 42 years old, Sr Suzanne, was burned alive.
