History

The foundation of this monastery was approved by the general chapter of abbesses in October 1971. The 5 founders left on 26 October and started regular life on 12 December, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Preparations had begun in 1970 by the visit of the abbess of Ubexy and M. Fr. Assise. In April 1971, the property was chosen and purchased. It was about 40 hectares, situated in the diocese of Morelia, some kilometers from Ciudad Hidalgo. It lies 2.000 m. above sea level.
M. Fr. Assise who became the superior fell gravely ill and had to be repatriated in May 1971. She was replaced by M. Gertrude Briswalter.
